WASA advises of service disruption to parts of Point Fortin and La Brea
The Water and Sewerage Authority (the Authority) advises customers in parts of Point Fortin and La Brea, who are currently experiencing an irregular pipe borne water supply that this is due to reduced production at the Point Fortin Desalination Plant.
The Seven Seas Water (SSW) owned and operated Point Fortin Desalination Plant, normally provides the Authority with 5.6 million gallons per day (mgd). However, production at the Plant has been reduced to approximately 4 mgd, due to the presence of excessive algae in the raw sea water at this time.
This situation is being monitored continuously and the facility is expected to return to full production as soon as the conditions clear. It should be noted that this situation does not impact the quality and safety of the water presently being produced and distributed by the Plant and the water meets the Guidelines for Drinking Water of the World Health Organisation and is safe to drink.
Areas affected include:
Cap De Ville Main Road (inclusive of side streets), Fanny Village, E Street, G Street, O Street, Pilgrim Street, Richards Drive, Louis Lane, New Village, Wharton Street, Recreation Ground Street, Felicity Street, Salazar Trace, Vessigny, Merrimac, Union Village, Square Deal, Chin Fong Alley, Sobo, Bassa Hill, Bel View, La Brea, New Lands, Chinese Village, Rousillac, Aripero, Dow Village, Mon Desir and Delhi Road.
