Update: Petrotrin’s response to oil sightings

August 8, 2016:  Petrotrin continues to monitor and respond to oil sightings at a number of beaches along the South Western Peninsula.

This is being done in conjunction with the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI), the Environmental Management Authority and the Office of Disaster Preparedness Management. Response teams mobilized yesterday (Thursday) continued today with the following: 

  • Investigations to identify the source of the oil, 
  • Cleanup efforts at those locations where sightings of oil patches and stains were confirmed.

As part of the ongoing exercises, Petrotrin officials conducted another helicopter fly-over of the shoreline this morning and afternoon. Petrotrin continues to liaise with all stakeholders as part of its response efforts and remains committed to safe and reliable operations.
