Trinbago Knight Riders’ victory a win for Sport Tourism
Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell congratulates the Trinbago Knight Riders on winning the Hero CPL T20 Tournament after an impressive eight wicket victory over the St Lucia Zouks in the final played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, South Trinidad, on Thursday September 10, 2020.
Minister Mitchell also believes that the successful staging of this event underscores Trinidad and Tobago’s ability to host a major sporting tournament even in the face of Covid-19 restrictions. Minister Mitchell says, “Destination Trinidad and Tobago is also to be congratulated as all major agencies including the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of National Security provided the support necessary to ensure a smoothly and safely executed tournament.”
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has identified Sport Tourism as part of its post Covid-19 recovery strategy as it seeks to stimulate economic activity by hosting events both at a community level and also on an international scale similar to the Caribbean Premier League. In this regard, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts will be working closely with the Ministry of Sport and Community Development to develop a Sport Tourism Master Plan that will chart a course for making Trinidad and Tobago a top destination worldwide for Sport Tourism.
Minister Mitchell believes the unprecedented twelve match winning performance coupled with the successful staging of the Caribbean Premier League which was viewed by millions around the globe can only augur well for positioning Destination Trinidad and Tobago at the pinnacle of Sport Tourism worldwide.
