Street Dweller removed to a shelter voluntarily

Port of Spain ---The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services (MSDFS) on Tuesday 7th, January 2020, coordinated the relocation of an elderly man, off the streets of Port of Spain, through combined efforts of Port of Spain City Corporation, the Social Displacement Unit of the Ministry and a concerned citizen, who requested assistance from the Ministry to have the man removed from the streets.

Through the combined efforts of the concerned citizen, POS City Corporation and the SDU the elderly male was located and transferred to temporary shelter. It is expected that he will be assessed for further assistance as required, for his long term care and accommodation; as part of the continuum of care established for Street Dwellers in Trinidad and Tobago.

The MSDFS is encouraged by this particular instance of voluntary relocation since it exemplifies the collaboration that is required to address the distressing situation that befalls street dwellers on our nation’s streets. The MSDFS looks forward to continued and increased collaboration of this nature and is reassured that the problem can be successfully addressed when all key stakeholders are on board and committed to the task.
