Sports Minister extends best wishes to men's indoor hockey team
Honourable Darryl Smith, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs visited the Woodbrook Youth Facility on Thursday, in a show of support and to encourage this country’s Senior Men's Indoor Hockey team to excel to their fullest potential, at the upcoming Indoor World Hockey Cup, Berlin.
The team was engaged in final preparations at a warm up match against a President's 11 selected team and will depart on Sunday for the competition, which is carded to take place from February 7th to 11th, 2018.
Minister Smith said, “While there is limited funding, I am working with President Douglas Camacho to ensure that the team has all the necessities required to excel in Berlin.” He extended warm wishes and bid them the best of luck on their journey as they go for GOLD.
The Trinidad and Tobago delegation is set to play in Group A, along with host Germany, Australia, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan and Poland in this fifth edition of the tournament.
This is the second time the Trinidad and Tobago Men have qualified for this prestigious event, the first being in 2007. The Women’s team have qualified once in 2003.
Minister Smith and by extension the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs once again extend best of luck to the team for success in Berlin.
