Retired Coast Guard officer is being helped by the Government

In response to a Newsday article dated June 5, 2018, with respect to Retired Coast Guard Officer Neville Stewart, of Arima; the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services wishes to advise that Mr. Stewart was contacted immediately upon the Ministry being informed of this unfortunate incident which occurred in January 2018. He was advised of the services available to him and the process involved in accessing the assistance needed.
 
Mr Stewart has already received assistance from the Ministry for minor house repairs and approval for household items. The Ministry is however, awaiting additional information from Mr Stewart, in order to proceed with processing of additional assistance.
 
The Honourable Cherrie-Ann Crichlow-Cockburn, Minister of Social Development and Family Services has been in communication with Mr. Stewart’s Member of Parliament, the Honourable Anthony Garcia; who has been interceding on his behalf; and has been keeping him apprised of the developments as they occurred.  Additionally, Ministry personnel has been working with Mr Stewart to address these issues.
                                                                                                                         
The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services wishes to reaffirm its commitment to alleviating the plight of Mr. Stewart and all vulnerable persons during times of distress, resulting from man-made or natural disasters.
