The proactive communities initiative
In keeping with its mandate to Help…Empower and Transform Lives, the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services continues to engage in collaborative efforts with key government agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Faith Based Organizations (FBOs); to provide information at the community level, on accessing its various programmes and social services.
On September 2, 2018 the Ministry took its services to Gobin Savannah, Corner 12th Street and Don Miguel Road, San Juan, for the North West Regional Health Authority’s Health, Wellness and Information Fair entitled Proactive Communities.
In addition to the services provided by the Ministry and several other government agencies at the Outreach, residents of the community were also able to benefit from information on accessing the Ministry’s programmes and services, as well as addressing queries concerning the Food Support Programme, grants administered under the Social Welfare Division as well as funding from the National Social Development Programme.
Grateful patrons also benefitted from assessments from the Hansen’s Disease Unit, Children’s Assessment Unit, Mental Health Screening Unit, Immunization, Cancer and Vision Screening Units; mediation services from the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts’ as well as services from the Alzheimer’s Association of Trinidad and Tobago.
As a key social sector partner and stakeholder, the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services was pleased to have participated in this initiative, which was geared towards engendering greater awareness of the programmes and services that are available to citizens. The Ministry welcomes the opportunity to partner with various government agencies, NGOs and FBOs as it seeks to Help…Empower and Transform Lives.
