October 24, 2016: The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) is in agreement with President of the Police Social and Welfare Association, Inspector Michael Seales’ call for implementation of body cameras for police officers.

This recommendation for police officers to be outfitted with body cameras is not new and were previously made by former PCA Director Gillian Lucky now High Court Judge at an outreach meeting at the Bon Air High School in November, 2012, and at a press conference on June, 2014.

The PCA also notes that calls for the use of body cameras has been growing worldwide and has recently been implemented by the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The present Authority of the PCA strongly calls for the implementation of body cameras as it is the belief of the Authority that it will improve the level of accountability of the police and will improve transparency in the conduct of police operations.
