Parliament Update: Media Release February 1, 2021
The Office of The Leader of The House has noted the Member of Parliament for Oropouche East’s comments on page 7 of today’s Express. MP Moonilal has falsely accused the Prime Minister of leading a “disgraceful shutdown” of the Opposition’s failed motion of no confidence in Parliament last Wednesday.
Firstly, it should be pointed out to the National Public that the affairs of the House were not directed by the Prime Minister, Dr. The Honourable Keith Rowley but by the Leader of The House, who in the temporary absence of the Honourable Camille Robinson-Regis, MP, is The Honourable Terrance Deyalsingh, MP.
MP Deyalsingh expertly led his team on the day in the face of what quickly descended into a barrage of irrelevant, repetitive, untrue and in some cases personal claims of what was described in the article as “favouritism and nepotism” by Members of the Opposition Bench.
These claims were continuously and effectively shown to be baseless by Members of the Government Bench, who after hearing the tedious repetition of the Opposition’s limited points of attack on the Minister of National Security, invoked the required Standing Orders in an attempt to reimpose some semblance of integrity to the debate.
It is unfortunate that the Member for Oropouche East is now trying to resuscitate the failed motion in the public domain where it has been widely acknowledged as poorly conceived and poorly executed, as was quite properly encapsulated in an article carried in the Express on January 27th entitled “Kamla’s ‘bomb’ bombs.”
It is this Office’s hope that this attempted revival would be as widely rejected.
The Hon Terrance Deyalsingh MP, Leader of the House (Acting)
