Overwhelming response to EBC’s invitation to senior citizens’ to ‘walk-in’ on Sundays to renew their expired National Identification Cards

The Elections and Boundaries Commission wishes to thank senior citizens for today’s (Sunday 10th January, 2021) overwhelming response to its invitation to attend its offices for the ‘walk-in’ service specifically for the renewal of expired national identification cards.

Sunday 10th January, 2021, was the first of the ‘walk-in’ Sundays at all EBC Registration Area Offices and Registration Area Sub-offices and despite the long lines of persons who availed themselves of this service, we were pleased for the opportunity to attend to all.

The EBC wishes to remind the public that this ‘walk-in’ renewal service is specifically for persons sixty and over and will continue for the next eleven (11) Sundays until March 28th, 2021. If necessary, this service to our senior citizens will continue after March. It should be noted that additionally, senior citizens also have the option to make an appointment for service on Mondays to Saturdays, where our hours of operation have been extended and these persons can call the EBC’s Call Centre to do so.

In light of the response, the EBC will continue to monitor this service to ensure that our senior citizens are facilitated as quickly as possible and in as comfortable as possible manner as they wait to be attended to.

Persons are to note that all public health Covid-19 protocols are enforced at all EBC Offices. The wearing of masks is mandatory and the persons are reminded to be mindful of physical distancing in the lines. Hand-sanitizing will be required on entry.

Persons are reminded that on December 21, 2020 the EBC extended the validity of all expired ID cards to June 30, 2021.
