No shortage of Gleevec® in nation’s hospitals

The Ministry of Health wishes to inform the public that there is no shortage of the cancer medication, Gleevec®, at the nation’s hospitals.

Minister of Health, the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh previously indicated that the cancer drug Gleevec®, which is manufactured by Norvatis and used to treat leukemia in patients, arrived in the country in December 2017. Furthermore, the National Insurance Property Development Company (NIPDEC), which is charged with the management and procurement of drugs on behalf of the Ministry, has confirmed that they have since received and distributed the Gleevec® drug to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, the St. James Medical Complex, the San Fernando General Hospital and the Sangre Grande Hospital.

The Ministry of Health assures the public that we remain committed to the delivery of quality care to all citizens and the overall enhancement of the public healthcare system as we move swiftly towards achieving development status by 2030.
