New Academic Year on Track to Start in September, 2020

The Ministry of Education, guided by the Ministry of Health, continues preparations for the start of the new academic year 2020-2021. Due to the circumstances surrounding the spread of COVID -19, teaching and learning for Term 1, which stretches from September to December, 2020; will be implemented remotely. The preparations of the MOE previous to the announcement of further critical preventative measures on August 15th, 2020, centered around the design of a blended learning experience- a mix of face-to-face and virtual classes; however, in light of the present circumstances, no face-to-face interaction is possible. Therefore the emphasis has shifted to the design of curriculum delivery methods using soley digital and traditional platforms, ensuring that no learner is left behind.

The Ministry of Education, in an effort to ensure that the interests of all stakeholders are considered in the design of Term I 2020/21, will meet with various stakeholder bodies on Wednesday, 26th August, 2020. Cognizant of the fact that all students do not have access to the online environment, the meeting will refine varying approaches to reaching students and ensuring effective delivery and engagement. On Friday, 28th August, 2020, specific details of the operational and curriculum guidelines for Term I 2020/21 will be communicated to the public at a media conference. The Ministry of Education remains committed to fulfilling its mandate of quality, accessible and equitable education for all citizens.
