Ministry of Social Development and Family Services takes its services into communities
“It’s so great to be able to have you here in my community, to share your valuable information on available grants and services” declared a resident of the Carenage Community to representatives of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services during an Outreach initiative held at the Haig Street, Carenage, Community Centre. The Outreach entitled, Proactive Communities, was hosted by the North West Regional Health Authority on Saturday 5 May, 2018 and offered free health care for both adults and children including blood pressure and sugar testing, eye testing, HIV/AIDS testing and Counselling as well as information of available social services through the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services.
This initiative was just one of the many Outreaches in which the Ministry participated in the past two weeks as part of its ongoing campaign to provide information and social services to various communities across the country. This comes as the Ministry recognises that often, there are still persons for whom social services and programmes are designed, uninformed or unaware of where and how to access them.
As such, the Ministry has taken the opportunity to share information and highlight its programmes, grants and services in order to achieve its mandate to help, empower and transform lives. On Friday 4 May, 2018, the Ministry joined the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation for an Autism Awareness Event, celebrating children with Autism at Monte Cristo Park, Sangre Grande. The Ministry is also hosting an information booth during the Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition 2018 at the various Community Festivals and have to date visited the community of Arima on Sunday 6 May 2018.
On the last weekend in April, the Ministry was at Gulf City, San Fernando for the Public Service Outreach Campaign 2018, hosted by the Ministry of Public Administration and Communications.
The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services is pleased to take its services to the community level and looks forward to sharing information on its suite of social services, thereby empowering all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
