Ministry of Social Development and Family Services responds to social media video

Thursday February 13, 2020 --- The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services wishes to advise members of the public that its Executive and staff are aware of a recent video that has since gone viral and which, purports that the staff at the San Fernando Regional Officewere absent from their posts during regular working hours.

Following an internal investigation, it has been confirmed that the video was in fact recorded within a secondary reception area of one of our offices, where clients who are awaiting specialised services are accommodated. Such services include the issue of Life Certificates and the collection of cheques. Further, it was ascertained that the video footage was taken just after the officer who was assigned to that area to provide services, had left her desk to attend to an administrative matter in the interest of another client, giving the perception that the office was void of staff. At the point in time of the footage, the main lobby area on the other side of the building was appropriately staffed to meet the needs of clients. The Ministry considers this incident as a breach of office security and will ensure that proper systems are put in place to avoid any reoccurrence.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services assures citizens of its continued commitment to excellence in service delivery as it meets the needs of the vulnerable citizens of our society. Regular working hours for all units, divisions, district and sub-offices remain from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. between Mondays and Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays.
