Ministry of Education pays maxi taxi concessionaires

When maxi taxi concessionaires picketed the Ministry of Education days before Christmas, Minister of Education Anthony Garcia met the group and promised that every effort will be made to pay them as soon as possible.

Minister Garcia stayed true to that promise and ensured that the Ministry secured the necessary financial releases to ensure the approximately three hundred (300) concessionaires receive their payments before school reopens on Monday 8th January, 2018.

On Thursday 4th January, 2018 the Ministry of Education handed over a cheque to the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) to facilitate these payments. The PTSC is the organisation which contracts these concessionaires to transport children to and from school on a daily basis.  Minister Garcia acknowledged that the maxi taxi operators provide a critical service and expressed his gratitude for their patience considering the prevailing economic climate.
