Minister of National Security meets with High Commissioner of Canada and Advisor to the Commissioner, Correctional Services Canada
Port of Spain: This country’s relations with Canada was fortified today, January 07, 2020 as Minister of National Security the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P met with High Commissioner of Canada to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago His Excellency Kumar Gupta and Advisor to the Commissioner, Correctional Services Canada Mr. Mike Ryan, at the Ministry of National Security’s Head Office on Abercromby Street, Port of Spain.
Minister Young took the opportunity to welcome to Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Kumar Gupta, who assumed duties at the High Commission of Canada this week. The Minister reinforced his commitment to furthering the longstanding bilateral security cooperation and friendship with Canada towards a safer and more secure Trinidad and Tobago.
The Minister also extended welcome greetings to Advisor to the Commissioner, Correctional Services Canada Mr. Mike Ryan who is on an official visit to Trinidad and Tobago for the period January 06 – 10, 2020.
High Commissioner Gupta expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome as well as the opportunity to continue to advance the work on existing and future security initiatives with Trinidad and Tobago.
Discussions focused on deepening the collaboration established under a Charter of Commitment between the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and the Correctional Service of Canada signed in October 2017, which facilitates the sharing of best practice techniques in Corrections Management, the enhancement of correctional programmes for offenders, as well as capacity strengthening initiatives for prison officers.
Also present at the meeting were Acting Commissioner of Prisons Mr. Dane Clarke, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Mr. Dennis Pulchan, Ministry of National Security Deputy Director of International Affairs Major (Ret’d) Richard Lynch; High Commission of Canada Liaison Officer Mr. Matthieu Girard; and High Commission of Canada Political and Public Affairs Counsellor Ms. Pamela Greenwell.
