Minister of National Security meets with Fire Service Association

Port of Spain: Minister of National Security the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P. met today, February 19, 2020, with members of the Fire Service Association Second Division. The meeting, which also included members of the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service Executive, took place at the Ministry of National Security Head Office on Abercromby Street in Port of Spain.

All parties welcomed the opportunity to meet to advance efforts aimed at positively impacting the operational aspects of the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service.

Minister Young assured Chief Fire Officer (Acting) Mr. Marlon Smith, President of the Fire Service Association Second Division Mr. Leo Ramkissoon, and their respective teams that he remains focused on promoting the safety and well-being of the members of the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the men and women of the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service for their continued service to the nation and recommitted to addressing all matters previously raised by the Fire Service Association Second Division. He reiterated that channels of communication with all parties for the reporting of matters pertaining to the Fire Service remain open.

The productive and cordial meeting served as a continuation of the work of the Tripartite Committee established in July 2019 to identify, prioritise and propose measures to resolve issues within the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service

Discussions centred on updates on infrastructural improvements to fire stations in need of repair across Trinidad and Tobago; the acquisition and repair of firefighting equipment including fire tenders; the acquisition of firefighting kits and uniforms; as well as continued training and development for fire officers.

Also present at the meeting were Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security Mr. Vel Lewis along with other officials from the Ministry. Other members of the Fire Service Association Second Division in attendance were General Secretary Mr. Marcellus Simon, Assistant Secretary Mr. Derek Hosein, Assistant Secretary – Piarco Mr. Kwasi Lewis, Assistant Secretary – Central Division Mr. Dennene Mohammed, Assistant Secretary – North West Division Mr. Keon Guy and Trustee   Mr. Bevin Jones. Other members of the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service Executive at the meeting were Brigade Engineer Mr. Arnold Bristo, Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer Mr., Clunis Wallen, Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer – Southern Division Mr. Ramdeo Boodoo, Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer – Central Division Mr. Sieunarine Ramsaran, Acting Divisional Fire Officer – Water and Essential Services Mr. Charles Zamore, Acting Divisional Fire Officer – Public Relations, Welfare and Research Mr. Rohan Singh, Acting Divisional Fire Officer – Fire Service School Mr. Gerard Jack, Acting Divisional Fire Officer – Procurement Mr. Nigel Lampkin and Acting Fire Sub Officer – Development Mr. Jason Diaz.
