Minister Mitchell welcomes reopening of Five Islands Water and Amusement Park

The Honourable Randall Mitchell, Minister of Tourism wishes to extend best wishes and congratulations to the management and staff of the Five Islands Water and Amusement Park on its grand reopening to the public today, Friday 26th June.  Located along the Chaguaramas coastline on the Western Peninsula the park offers exciting indoor and outdoor activities and offers entertainment for the entire family.

Prior to its opening, the Five Islands Water and Amusement Park which is considered to be the pinnacle of entertainment in the Southern Caribbean, accessed tourism incentives from the Ministry of Tourism’s Investment Facilitation and Monitoring Unit under the Tourism Development Act (TDA).  The Ministry was pleased to work closely with park management in bringing this important project to fruition.  A key part of the facilitation process involved the support of local industries by ensuring that as much as possible the project utilized the services of local artisans in the design and fabrication of key elements of the park before exploring importation of foreign inputs.  For example, in conceptualising the various themes around the park, the designs incorporated local culture, folklore, national icons, sites and attractions so that visitors to the park experience a bit of destination Trinidad and Tobago as they traverse the various rides and activities throughout the park.

The Ministry of Tourism through its Investment Facilitation and Monitoring Unit continues to support industry stakeholders via incentives available in the areas of tourism accommodation, tourism transportation and tourism ancillary services under the Optimal Suite of Incentives.  These incentives encourage both tourism product development and contribute to an overall improved visitor experience and satisfaction.

Minister Mitchell hails the reopening of this park as very timely as it comes at a period when the Government of Trinidad and Tobago has entered the fifth phase of easing of Covid-19 restrictions which allows for access to beaches, rivers and amusement parks among other recreational facilities.  He also recognises that The Five Islands Water and Amusement Park adds to the myriad of tourism products and experiences already available in Trinidad and Tobago and facilitates an increase in domestic tourism activity.

The Five Islands Water and Amusement Park will be opened from today, Friday 26th June from 1pm to 6pm and thereafter will be opened daily (Monday to Friday) from 10am to 6pm during the August vacation period.
