Minister of Labour meets with the Trinidad and Tobago Organisation of Recruitment Service Providers
Senator the Honourable Jennifer Baptiste-Primus and members of her executive team recently met with members of the Trinidad and Tobago Organisation of Recruitment Service Providers (TTORSP) at the Ministry’s Headquarters. The TTORSP is an organization which is seeking to develop a Code of Conduct, formalise their registration and determine specific goals for their industry as they chart their way forward.
Discussions were also centred on the feedback from the Consultation on the Recruiting of Workers Act Chap 88:10, which was held in June 2019, and other relevant labour laws issues pertinent to their sector.
Minister Baptiste-Primus stated that the formation of such an organization is historical and impressed upon the 16 representative member group the importance of officially registering the organisation. The group expressed their awareness of the high levels of exploitation of individuals within the recruitment industry and agreed to take steps toward standardisation and self-regulation, to protect their brand and ensure that the proper ethics and standards are being met. Minister Baptiste-Primus gave an undertaking that the Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development (MOLSED) will support the initiatives by the organisation once it meets legal and administrative requirements and is officially registered.
The meeting presented an opportunity to establish, a working group between the Ministry and the TTORSP which will begin the regulation process of the industry to remedy and or prevent any surge in labour exploitation, human trafficking and child labour.
