FashionTT’s VCIP designers receive tailored training
The Trinidad and Tobago Fashion Company Limited (FashionTT) held a two-day Business of Fashion Workshop on the 29th and 30th September at the Courtyard by Marriot, Invader’s Bay, Port of Spain. The workshops were tailored to meet the needs of its Value Chain Investment Programme (VCIP) designers, particularly in the Global Value Chain (GVC) and Non-GVC tiers.
The General Manager of FashionTT, Ms Lisa-Marie Daniel stated “the workshops served to address some of the gaps existing among the VCIP designers in the areas of trend and product development and digital/ecommerce planning. The workshops provided its participants with the tools and knowledge to sharpen their business model which will allow for forward movement within a designated market.”
The sessions were hosted by Mr. Robert Shultz, a professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in the specialization of Fashion Merchandizing and Management, Ms. Kelsey Lynne Naughright, Ecommerce Project Director at Alice and Olivia by Stacey Bendet, and Vincent Quan, professor at FIT and current VCIP consultant.
Some of the major topics discussed at the workshops included Identifying and Commercializing Colour, Prints, Fabrics, Silhouettes and Garment Details, Developing a Collection, Understanding the Foundation of Digital and Driving Profit and Growth from an Online Platform. Knowledge and application in these areas are essential in developing the business aspect of Fashion.
The Value Chain Investment Programme, which launch in July this year, is one of the core projects of the Strategic Plan for the Fashion Industry. This programme assesses local firms by an independent international panel who will categorize firms into one of the four levels of the VCIP: The Global Value Chain (GVC) Support Programme, Non-Global Value Chain (non-GVC) Support Programme, Incubator Programme for New/Young High Potential Companies or Partnerships and Firms that are Earmarked for Future Support.
