Emergency shutdown at Pt Lisas Desalination Plant
The Water and Sewerage Authority (the Authority) advises customers in parts of Central and South West Trinidad, who are experiencing a disruption in their pipe borne water supply that this is due to a disruption in the operation of the Point Lisas Desalination Plant.
The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago – DESALCOTT owned and operated Plant, normally supplies WASA with 40 million gallons of water per day (mgd), which is used to supply the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, as well as augment the supply to areas in Central and South West Trinidad. This disruption will therefore significantly impact the Authority’s water distribution capacity to supply its customers.
DESALCOTT is currently assessing the extent of the problem to address same in the shortest time possible. Further details on the duration of this disruption will be provided in a subsequent update.

Claxton Bay Marabella
Gulf View Union Hall
La Romaine Palmiste
Phillipine Rambert Village
San Francique Cocoyea
In order to mitigate the effects of this supply shortfall on operations, the Authority will be re-distributing supplies from its Caroni and Navet Water Treatment Plants, as well as the implementation of temporary supply schedules. Customers are asked to manage their water use efficiently, as it may take 24 to 36 hours for the supply to normalize to some affected areas, after the Plant returns to full operation.
