Agriculture Minister to present at IICA’s Seminar on Family Agriculture in the Caribbean on 28/11/2017
The Inter-American Institute for Co-operation on Agriculture (IICA) will be hosting a Seminar on Family Agriculture at the University Inn and Conference Centre, University of the West Indies (UWI, St. Augustine Campus), St. Augustine on Tuesday 28th November, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. The Seminar will serve as a forum to share the results of recent studies conducted in the Caribbean; present pertinent experiences from other countries in Latin America with respect to family agriculture and; explore how the concept of family agriculture could be promoted and positioned in the region in an effort to foster the development of the agricultural and rural sectors.
It is envisaged that the Seminar will:
- Provide information and facilitate discussion - with key stakeholders and policy makers - on the main characteristics of family agriculture in the Caribbean region; their characteristics and; contributions to the countries' food security and economy;
- Position family agriculture in the public agenda and in the academic research, identifying and addressing the main factors that determine the current productive, economic and social problems of family agriculture in the region; and
- Foster dialogue among policy makers on the articulation of differentiated public policy in support of the development of family agriculture and its increased contribution to food and nutrition security.
Senator the Honourable Clarence Rambharat, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, will deliver the Keynote Address at the seminar.
