“Singing at the MoE” at the Education Towers
Children from several Morvant/Laventille schools performed a series of Christmas favourites for an audience which included Prime Minister, Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley outside the Ministry of Education this morning.
The children are participants in the School Improvement Project (SIP) which was launched by the Prime Minister last November.
The project is geared towards the holistic development of the child and brings together key stakeholders including the Ministry of Education, principals, teachers, parents, students and the community. The program focuses on improving infrastructure and aesthetics, literacy and teacher training and development, student violence and indiscipline as well as parenting in education.
The School Improvement Project targets twenty-five (25) primary and secondary schools in the Morvant/Laventille area.
The students used the concert as an opportunity to present toys and money they collected for the children of Dominica who were adversely affected by the hurricane to the Minister of Education, the Hon. Anthony Garcia.
Prime Minister Rowley pledged to add his own donation to Dominica to their tally.
Also on hand today to enjoy the performances were the Minister of Education, the Hon. Anthony Garcia, Minister in the Ministry of Education, the Honourable Dr. the Hon. Lovell Francis, Member of Parliament for Laventille East/Morvant, the Hon. Adrian Leonce.
South East Government Secondary School, Lower Morvant Government Primary School, Hockett Baptist and Escalier Anglican School were among the performing schools.
